COMvergence: UM, PHD, Nunn top new business league

UM, PHD, Nunn Media recorded the best performance in Australia in 2024, according to the New Business Barometer published by COMvergence which studied 30 media agencies.

UM retained the federal government account and PHD won the Asahi Group and retained Volkswagen.

Some agencies owned by global advertising groups had an overall negative result including Initiative with the loss of Amazon.

Nunn ranked first among independents for new business performances and for total new business value, including retentions.

This is a result of 11 new client wins including Spotlight Retail Group ($US54.7m). 

Atomic 212 was a close second with wins from Haval ($14.5m) and BlueScope ($14m). 

Half Dome ranked third, with wins including Online Education Services ($21.5m).

At the group level, GroupM ranked first in terms of total new business value, including retentions.

This is a result of 12 new client wins ($189.3m) including Amazon ($70m) and Nestlé ($41.6m).

OMG was second with retentions including Volkswagen ($68.9m) and Asahi ($20.4m), and wins including AgriFutures ($7.7m). 

Nunn Media Group ranked third, including retentions, with new client wins including Spotlight Retail Group ($54.7m).

In Australia, COMvergence assessed 155 media account moves/retentions in 2024, totalling $1.05B, higher than the volume reviewed in 2023 ($934m). 

The 20 largest pitches (spend ≥ $13M each) represent 69% of the total spend reviewed during the year.
