Ninemsn managing director Alex Parsons has stepped down from his role, leading to an executive restructure at Mi9.

Parsons has taken up the role of chief executive at comparison site RateCity, which is one of Mi9's investments. He has replaced Damian Smith, who took on a role at Telstra some months ago.

His role will not be directly replaced at Mi9. Rather, the company has reshuffled its executive ranks to deal with the gap.

Ninemsn editor-in-chief Hal Crawford has been placed into Mi9's executive leadership team, while Ninemsn head of product innovation Rebecca Haagsma has been promoted to director of convergence.

Parsons told AdNews that his departure has provided several senior staff with the opportunity to take on more senior leadership roles.

The commercial aspects of Ninemsn will continue to be overseen by Mi9 managing director media Matt James, who looks after all commercial aspects of Mi9. Meanwhile, general manager of Microsoft Media Network and Microsoft Advertising Exchange, Marc Barnett, has been moved into the role of commercial director, reporting to James.

Parsons said: “With Mark [Britt] at the top of Mi9, and with people like Matt James and Hal Crawford and [Mi9 managing director of data and services] Richard Mclaren, there is a strong leadership team at the company.”
