In his first TV commercial since returning to the Labor leadership, prime minister Kevin Rudd has called for an end to 'negative politics'.
The 30-second spot, 'Raising the Standards', will run on commercial free-to-air TV from tonight. In it, Rudd flags up education, broadband, healthcare, job security and the economy as focus areas.
"I believe all Australians are sick and tired of negative politics," he says. "I believe people want all of us to raise the standards. What I care about is whether your kids are getting better schools. Whether people in the city and country have the same access to fast broadband.
"Whether your local hospital has a decent emergency department. Whether you have a strong economy and job security. And for both sides of politics to have a positive plan for our country's future."
The ad comes after two Liberal Party attack ads. 'Labor Chaos', uploaded to YouTube on the day of the leadership spill, uses file footage of Gillard government ministers and Labor Party figures denouncing Rudd.
'New Rudd Minister', released last Sunday, attacks newly appointed Rudd cabinet minister Julie Collins, ridiculing her for stumbling over her words during a press conference.
Liberal Party federal director Brian Loughnane earlier told News Limited the party was preparing a series of attack ads, with all contingencies prepared for.
