CommBank has released a series of short films, including one featuring media mogul Kerry Stokes.

Commonwealth Bank has leveraged its sponsorship of the Australian of the Year Awards with the release of a series of short films featuring a selection of the finalists including Ita Buttrose and Kerry Stokes.

The branded films, 'The Can Stories', include eight biographical short films directed by Australian filmmakers. They are housed with CommBank's Facebook page from today until the end of the month. Viewers cannot access the short films on the brand's Facebook page unless they 'like' it first, however, the videos can be found on YouTube.

The brand is also running a competition which encourages users to view and vote for their favourite of the eight. A winner will be drawn to claim a trip to the Cannes Film Festival.

CommBank general manager, brand and sponsorships Monique Macleod said: “We are fiercely proud of our long-standing sponsorship of the Australian of the Year Awards. The Awards are the most highly regarded and nationally recognised acknowledgement of the incredible achievements of all Australians, from the high profile to local heroes.

“Each and every finalist has an inspirational Can story to share and, this year, the bank wanted to provide a unique platform that could enable them to share that story in a compelling way and on a large scale. I challenge anyone who watches these eight short films not to be inspired by what they see.”

All eight films will also be screened on Channel Ten on Australia Day and Foxtel's BIO channel in the last week of January.

The subjects of the eight films are finalists in the Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year and Local Hero categories. They are Ita Buttrose, Jessica Mauboy, Andrew Hughes, Laurie Lawrence, Professor John Martin, Francis Owusu, Sonya Ryan and Kerry Stokes.
