The Chaser's return to television with media-focused show The Hamster Wheel drew a respectable 857,000 viewers last night, while fellow ABC program Gruen Planet continues its solid run with 1.13 million.
The Hamster Wheel features the comedy group ruminate on the state of the media and journalism, and will run for eight episodes. The program was the 10th ranked show for the night, according to OzTam.
The Chaser's last series on the ABC was an election special series last year. Previously, The Chaser's War on Everything attracted excellent ratings, often upwards of 1.5 million. However, The Chaser's War on Everything originally debuted with ratings under a million.
The second outing of Gruen Planet drew the same amount of viewers as last week, 1.13 million, and was ranked second for the night. The ABC also had the fourth ranked program with Spicks and Specks with 996,000 viewers.
Seven's premiere of The One - Australia's Most Gifted Psychic attracted 945,000 viewers. Seven had the highest ranked program with Seven News pulling in 1.17 million.
Across the main channels, audience rating share was fairly evenly spread with Seven first with 19.8%. Nine was second with 17.3%, Ten third with 15.8%, the ABC at 15.3% and SBS at 3.9%.
