Whatever pleasure the Ten Network got out of beating the comedy duo’s Euro Gap Year intermittently with MasterChef last year after it lost out on signing the two would be long forgotten now. Hamish Blake and Andy Lee have continually come up with gold for the Nine Network with Euro Gap Year, Caravan of Courage and now the hilariously successful Asia Gap Year.
The pair haven’t changed substantially since their early days of radio on Fox FM, rather, Australia has warmed to their insane but generally harmless antics, turning their radio show, The Hamish & Andy Show, into the highest-rating program in Australian history and paving the way for a shot at prime time TV.
While radio personalities have struggled recently to get a foothold on the silver screen, Hamish and Andy continue to surface at the top of ratings charts, and advertisers are bashing down doors to get a piece of the action and contribute to the Nine coffers. With continual OzTam results of well over a million viewers for Asia Gap Year, it’s no wonder these guys hold some serious sway.
