Orla Delaney: APX group digital manager at Publicis Groupe’s APEX Exchange

Time in current role/time at the company:

Coming up on ten months.

How long have you been in the industry?

Two years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

After wrapping up my law and politics degree at university, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I then landed a role in programmatic back in the UK. Luckily enough, I got into the swing of things pretty quickly and found something I really enjoyed.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

The whole APEX team have been unreal from the start, especially Jenni Chase, Lauren Young and Gabby Silverstone! I’m based down in Melbourne, so luckily get to work closely Tom Twinn and Kerrie Leary as well.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

Advertising plays such an enormous part of day-to-day life and how we, as consumers, perceive things. With my current role, I’m exposed to brands across the Publicis Groupe, and I love seeing what they are trying to achieve and how we can help! We’re also at the forefront of trialling new technologies, ideas and strategies, which is definitely one of my favourite things about our industry.

And the biggest challenge?

Getting used to such a fast-paced and ever-changing industry was a baptism of fire, but now I love it.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

Having only been agency side in my career so far, I’d love to try out client side later down the line. I’m very into beauty/skincare and would love to be involved with a campaign from a brand’s point of view. One of the brands I’ve loved watching evolve is Glossier, so I’d have to say Kyle Leahy’s job – their current CEO.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

Where my team sits in the Groupe allows us to work with multiple brands and agencies, so I’m able to draw inspiration from across the board daily. I’m also very lucky that friends from the industry at home are now over here as well and are another great source of inspiration – thank you Will McCoulough!

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

Unfortunately for the team I’m a very open book – can’t think of much they don’t know!

In five years' time, I'll be:

Up to God knows what. If you told me five years ago I’d be working in advertising and living in Australia, I wouldn’t have believed you. So, it’s hard to say what the future holds. Hopefully having seen more of the world and still doing something I love.
