Lily Ovenden: sales executive at Paramount
Time in current role/time at the company:
I joined Paramount Brisbane in 2019 and have been a sales executive for over two years.
How long have you been in the industry?
I’ve been in the media industry for nearly seven years. My media grind began at Seven Affiliate Sales in 2017 before I moved to Paramount.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
In all honesty I had no idea what I wanted to do when I finished school, so tried to choose something broad to study at Uni. I landed on a Media Communications degree, majoring in Advertising and Public Relations. I then managed to snag my first media job (thanks for believing in me Jess Healy) and have never looked back.
Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
I consider myself extremely lucky to work with the likes of Jess Healy and Kat Droulers here in Brisbane. I very much look up to and turn to them for day-to-day guidance.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
At the risk of sounding cliché, I’d like to lock in ‘the people’ as my answer. I’ve met incredible people and formed genuine friendships over the past six years - people who I never would have met in the outside world.
And the biggest challenge?
As great as it is to have the flexibility to work from home, I do find it difficult when I’m not physically at work in that environment, and much prefer to be in the office or out and about seeing people.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
A guest judge on Thank God You’re Here.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
My family and partner inspire me to think differently and keep an open mind. I also dabble in podcasts and am currently loving The Imperfects – they chat to some awesome people and talk about some pretty impressive and inspirational topics. (Hit me up for any podcast recs!)
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
One of my first part-time jobs was as a dental assistant. I fainted on the first day and never went back.
In five years' time, I'll be:
Watching the Brisbane Lions win their fifth straight premiership (*fingers crossed).
