In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's QMS senior account manager Harmony Grant.
Time in current role:
I was recently promoted to senior account manager, so it’s a new role for me.
How long have you been in the industry?
I’ve been in media for just over four years now; a couple of years at QMS and then agency side before that.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
I was in hospitality since I was very young, which allowed me to travel and live overseas for more than a decade while also studying Commerce. Then one day I decided it was time to settle back home in Melbourne. With one of my best friends already in media and a few phones calls later, I haven’t looked back since!
Who is your right-hand person?
My wonderful team support me every day at work. Special shout out to Mitch Sanzone, Jess Zavecz and Daisy Stickels.
What is the best thing about the industry you work in?
Media – and OOH in particular – is always evolving, making it a very exciting place to be. But it’s the relationship-building with my clients like helping them find the best solutions to deliver the results they need that makes it so rewarding.
And the biggest challenge?
Every day provides new challenges but I see them as opportunities for solutions. With the upcoming launch of MOVE 2.0 – staying ahead of the latest trends, tools and tech for clients – it’s definitely challenging, but it is also forcing me to expand my thinking which has been really rewarding.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
Someday I’d like to set up my own business and work for myself.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
I turn to many people for inspiration, but working with my best friend Eliza Meyer and her vast experience in the industry allows me to use her as a fantastic sounding board; she provides great advice and the way she goes about her business is really inspiring.
My favourite advert is:
Vegemite’s quick thinking to welcome Taylor Swift with a cheeky billboard is a recent highlight.
But the Old Carlton Draught adverts are very funny and so clever.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I travelled the USA from coast to coast with one of my best friends in a van called Fanny. The trip was filled with great times and fantastic memories, including sleeping in our van in Walmart carparks on multiple occasions.
In five years time, I will be:
I will be working on my dream house (fingers crossed), travelling and continuing to kick goals here at QMS.
