Today we speak to AdTorque Edge digital performance & strategy manager Ricki Hall.
Time in current role/time at the company:
I have been with AdTorque Edge for over four years.
How would you describe what the company does?
A specialist full-service agency that delivers innovative & measurable marketing solutions to the automotive, leisure, & lifestyle industries.
What do you do day-to-day?
Manage a team of digital specialists while prioritising time on key accounts and overlooking digital campaign KPIs.
Define your job in one word:
Dynamic.
I got into digital because:
A love & respect for all things digital and a healthy curiosity for how things work.
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Agencies are fast-paced businesses that require you to learn to prioritise, while collaborating with many departments, all before the project deadline. This daily struggle is often the biggest challenge.
What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
I believe as an industry we’re slow to adapt, still utilising old techniques simply because they’ve been around for some time. There is still a lot of rinse/repeat mentality that is dragging industry performance.
Notable campaigns you have worked on:
I have worked on many incredible campaigns in the past few years, however, my most notable is my work with BRP Can-Am & Sea-Doo APAC.
As a motorcycle enthusiast & action junkie, I am blessed to work alongside these brands and share their vision to encourage new entrants into the riding & water sports category.
Who has been a great mentor to you and why?
I have had a few great mentors in my time. Shout out to Ringo Teng for introducing me to all things digital and Damien O’Neill for giving me the necessary tools and skills to execute in my chosen career path. And my dad (David Hall) who has always been a reliable go-to.
Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours:
Don’t Stop Learning! Whether it be learning to use a new platform or enrolling in a new course, keep learning from your experiences and the people around you. This year I am studying Project Management, next year who knows, I may look to finish my MBA.
If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
A pilot. I love to fly and have already completed several introductory pilot lessons.
My mantra is:
Everyone you will meet knows something you don't.
My favourite advert:
ALDI’s The Great Banana Migration is a highly-underrated advert and speaks perfectly to the desired audience.
Music and TV streaming habits: what do you subscribe to?
I don’t tend to creep outside of my music comfort zones. I regularly fall back to nineties & 2000s rock music.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I dropped out of high school in Year 9. From high school dropout to a Bachelor of Commerce with double majors. You can say my path to get here has been quite unique.
In five years' time I'll be:
Who knows, I like to keep my future as fluid as possible. However, general manager has a nice ring to it.
