AdNews brings the stories of those working from home (WFH) in the advertising and media industry during the coronavirus crisis.
Tara Phelps is head of client services at Bastion EBA.
How are you dealing with the silence?
Not too much silence in my house with two sausage dogs and a fiance in sales right next door!
What’s the upside?
I'm actually finding that my productivity is through the roof, taking out the commute means that I can get online early and do the most important things for the day before the meetings fire up. Our team has also never felt more connected, which may seem ironic but given we are Sydney and Melbourne based respectively, this has literally smashed down any walls that stood between us truly operating as a national team.
The downside?
I'm definitely missing the collaborations with other parts of the business. We work really closely with our PR business specifically, and Iso life means that we don't have the exposure to those guys that we once had sitting right next to them. Obviously the ongoing news cycle brings one down too, but I have chosen to carve out News time as it's just not healthy to consume it all day every day!
How are you using the commuting time saved?
I have become a much better dog owner! I am also studying which I started back in Feb so the extra time (and lack of FOMO in any way) has meant that I can actually dedicate some time throughout the week to study.
I am looking forward to being back in the office because…
The people for sure - people make a business and we have a pretty good bunch inside EBA but also across the other parts of the business that I would love to have a coffee and a chat with. And please god...bring back the fast Internet!
