AdNews last year launched the WFH Diaries during the depths of the fallout from the pandemic, a way of sharing how people were spending their days.
This time we're asking for a run down on how everyone likes to start their day working from home. Some dress to impress, others slip on the t-shirt.
And everyone has their own way to carve the day into manageable chunks.
Simon Hadfield - DMCG Global Managing Partner:
I’m in the groove now. Due to the nature of our business, I work from home all the time, global pandemic or not. I was going to the gym a lot before the stay-at-home order and now try and do an early long walk around the Balmain area most mornings. A lot of my time is spent on the phone so I can combine walking with calls which helps.
Tips for getting through the day?
Work is busy but not out of control so there is room around the edges for life admin. I can’t recall how I used to get through all the bills, paperwork, kids appointments etc when I was in an office fulltime, bloody hell! I have projects around the house which I try and accomplish and that assists with not opening wine too early or switching on the telly.
Distractions?
Categorising my vinyl, starting a rebuild of one my vintage Vespa’s, building a trellis in the garden, ordering clothes online, crypto trading, food shopping, air guitar, cleaning the house, washing, thinking about restoring furniture, turning the garage in to a proper man shed. The list goes on and on.
Upside. Downside.
I’m flying solo a lot of the time so interacting with workmates is missed a little. No printer is also a pain in the ass however I think there’s probably more oxygen in the world now that I don’t really have access to one. Meeting candidates F2F isn’t ideal however it can help speed up the process. Oh, and how I miss an IT department.
Tips for making WFH work?
I log on very early, get some emails etc done and also late at night and over the weekend. That allows me to take an hour or two off during business hours so it all evens out in the wash. I find it a far better way to work.
How do you deal with the silence?
Double J and loads of phone calls both work related and not. Friends dropping into the house as much as possible when they’re allowed.
