AdNews last year launched the WFH Diaries during the depths of the fallout from the pandemic, a way of sharing how people were spending their days.
This time we're asking for a run down on how everyone likes to start their day working from home. Some dress to impress, others slip on the t-shirt.
And everyone has their own way to carve the day into manageable chunks.
Samantha (Sammy) Bolton, Managing Partner – USA & UK, Audience Precision:
I'm up between 6:30am – 7 am, and the first thing I do in the morning is something for myself… always outdoors, usually a run, walk, home gym sesh or some stretching. Then I go down to my local coffee shop to grab a coffee and then home to shower and start the day.
I have structured my week to be go, go, go Monday to Wednesday with client calls, team catch-ups etc. This helps me jump into the week and make sure the team has what they need from me. On these days, I am always dressed in proper clothes and do my hair, and a bit of makeup! Thursday and Friday are my days with minimal meetings, and this is my time to do the planning, strategy, and any admin for the business. So I am a little more relaxed on the clothes front and prioritise comfort.
Wrapping up the day is probably the hardest part for me…I find it hard to put the tools down!! But, this time around, I've been better at this. I go for a walk and listen to a podcast.
Tips for getting through the day?
- Make a structure that works for you and your energy levels.
- Every call doesn't need to be a video call. Since COVID started, I feel we have forgotten that we can still just have a normal phone call. So when possible, pop your headphones on and do a walking meeting or catch up with your team.
- I have converted my tall dresser into a standing desk! Gamer changer!!
- Music!
Distractions…
Not many for me, I feel like I am more distracted in the office.
Upside. Downside?
Upsides - I still do a lot of international work and have nights with lots of calls, so I do like the extra time we get back from commuting, and I can structure my week to work for Aussie, the UK, and myself. I also love the extra hour sleep in during winter at the moment
Downside – I miss the "Happy Friday" vibes. They just aren't the same at home.
