AdNews last year launched the WFH Diaries during the depths of the fallout from the pandemic, a way of sharing how people were spending their days.
This time we're asking for a run down on how everyone likes to start their day working from home. Some dress to impress, others slip on the t-shirt.
And everyone has their own way to carve the day into manageable chunks.

I try and set the tone for my day with a cheeky three minute wake up meditation. Then, while the kids are still asleep, I get the exercise kit on and do a 30 minute workout or yoga. Up next is breaky! I cook the kiddos some pancakes and try not to eat them and undo all the hard work I just did!! It’s a daily battle, trust me, they are delicious. I shower and get dressed semi-professionally (up top) like I’m headed in to work. The bottom half is lounge wear and of course the best footwear, uggies!
Tips for getting through the day?
I have circuit breakers that help me reset, recharge and refuel. This includes blocking out break time in my diary, getting out of the house, grabbing a coffee, hanging out the washing, walking barefoot on the grass (never under-estimate the power of grounding), or just sitting in the sun for ten minutes. The most impactful ethos I try and live by was shared by my wonderful coach Clare Robinson, “Manage your energy, not your time.” Being ruthlessly focused in how I align work output to my energy levels has been game changing. I’m an AM person so anything big picture, creative or strategic that needs brain power and space for thinking, needs to be done before lunch. Lower value tasks are smashed out after lunch.
Distractions?
My biggest distractions (and laughs) have come from my family. Having a sense of play in the seriousness that lockdown brings is important. My kids have been known to sit on my head while I’m on a video call, ironically these always happen to be the meetings where you want to come off as highly professional. You’ll also often see the hubby half-dressed in the background of my meetings, no matter how many times I’ve asked him to put on a shirt. Apologies for any historic or future offence he may cause.
Upside. Downside.
Upside: Exploring my LGA and finding some amazing bushwalks. Highly recommend West Head for any other people who live in god’s country (Northern Beaches).
Downside: I miss my people, the team, the agency. I am a people person so not having this real life connection, the banter, the side bar kitchen chats, and a cheeky bevvy at the Q has been hard.
