AdNews last year launched the WFH Diaries during the depths of the fallout from the pandemic, a way of sharing how people were spending their days.

This time we're asking for a run down on how everyone likes to start their day working from home. Some dress to impress, others slip on the t-shirt.

And everyone has their own way to carve the day into manageable chunks.

Paul Sigaloff, Vice President of ANZ INSEA at Yahoo:

My 6am morning ritual starts with a quick scan of news and a catch up on the barrage of global comms/emails and then it’s out the door for exercise, which is a must for my mental health and wellbeing. No commuting / business travel has given me time back for more meaningful connections with my family so we now enjoy early morning dog walks together. This is a wonderful way to catch up with my wife and boys, the people I love the most and would often see the least due to traditional working practices.

Then it’s time for a quick brekkie - a flat white, butter and vegemite on toast is my current go to - make sure homeschooling is ontrack before our respective busy days start.

Given WFH I now start and end my day with a check-in, a habit I picked up from #Coliv-19. It's a great way to keep connected to different people across our business, the industry and friends who are overdue for a phone call. Like many of you, people give me energy, so this hit at the start and end of the day is good for my soul.

Tips for getting through the day?

Plan your day and be really selective about the number of VC calls you schedule. Phone calls can often be just as effective and give you a much needed break from screen time. Schedule at least one walking meeting a day to mix it up, it’s great to move and get out for some fresh air and your daily fix of vitamin D.

The commute used to be a really good way for me to set up and decompress from the day, walking upstairs doesn't quite cut it so I try and finish my day with a quick walk around the block.

Distractions?

A messy kitchen (teaching my family how to load the dishwasher is a work in progress), a demanding furbaby seeking attention and the unforeseen calls that blow out your schedule

Upside. Downside.

Downside: I miss my people and the corridor conversations, bumping into colleagues that aren’t part of a scheduled meeting and just having a chat

Upside: In the spirit of saving time, I’ve embraced the iso beard and now save more time not shaving :)
