The WFH Diaries - Nicole Bence at Seven

27 May 2020

AdNews brings the stories of those working from home (WFH) in the advertising and media industry during the coronavirus crisis.

Nicole Bence is Seven's network digital sales director.

How do you deal with the silence?
I crave silence. I’m an early riser, so often the dogs and I are out at 6am, which used to be an easy time to find silence, but with so many people turning to exercise (not a bad thing) it’s often hard to find the solitude that used to come that time of the day.

The good of working from home?
Even though I am contributing more of my time to work, not having to commute either to and from work or to meetings, means I am more productive. Plus, there is always WIA (working in activewear).

The bad?
Not being with the team. We have a diverse mix of characters, so definitely the vibe they bring to the office is missed. Although there’s been a few dress ups on VC, so we still know how to bring it. We have great comms channels and we’re celebrating the wins, but nothing like a fist bump when the team gets a big win.

Tips for making WFH work?
Morning routine, get out exercise, do whatever makes you feel good. I find by creating time and space for myself before the day starts… means that if I have a long day, at least I feel like I’ve given back to me. Plus, bit batch cooking, with two kids at home, they seem to be eating more and by having the fridge full means we're eating well.

I am looking forward to getting back to the office because …
Reflect, share and integrate the learnings. By the time we come back together, I think there will be lots of opportunities to change the way we do things for the better. Flexible working, less commuting, tighter meeting agendas. But mostly, I am looking forward to getting down to Melbourne to meet the team face-to-face. Having only started in February, I’m yet to meet them.
