The Academy Awards 2021 gathered around $US2 million for 30 second slots during the broadcast of the movie industry’s night of nights.
Ad space has been sold out for the most-watched entertainment program of the year, according to Disney Advertising Sales.
The awards ceremony starts at 10am AEST today. Channel Seven and 7plus will be broadcasting live. Foxtel has red carpet glamour via E! Entertainment from 7am.
The total ad spend isn’t known for the 93rd Academy Awards but last year the Oscars hit $150 million in commercial revenue, including pre-ceremony Red Carpet coverage.
But the Oscars doesn't command the world’s highest pieces for air time. At the Super Bowl 2021, 30 second spots were going for around $US5.5 million to reach a television audience of 100 million.
The Oscars generates more ad revenue for Disney's ABC than any other day of the year.
This year the advertisers include General Motors, Google, Verizon, Rolex, Accenture, Adidas, Airbnb, Apple, Corona, Disney Plus, Expedia, Grey Goose, GSK, Honda, Kellogg, Mars, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks, Subway, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros.
Verizon, in its fourth year of advertising at the awards, is using social media to take viewers behind-the-scenes at the Oscars.
And it will run spots showing how its telecommunications services helped people during the pandemic, such as this one:
