The newly created role is aimed at delivering on the agency’s focus on providing people-based marketing solutions for clients, while also focusing on new behavioural and consumer patterns.

As a result, he said the appointments were focused on reflecting that change both internally and with external clients, as it looks to "accelerate" its growth as a business and as a player in the "thought leadership space".

"It allows us actually to deliver on that strategy by having the right talent to either drive the thought leadership platform or to diversify revenue into new areas and new solutions for our clients, while also of course developing our core talent in our business and culture," Barbour said,

"The challenge for any agency is always to protect our core clients, to drive innovation, different thinking and new revenue but importantly to grow our talent and our culture. So, those new hires allow us to really simply deliver our business strategy and build on our achievements from 2018."

The changes build upon the addition last year of Simone Galletly as national planning director, and the return of Stu Carr as national head of measurement – both of whom are also on the leadership team.

Last year, Starcom secured a number of new accounts, including Procter & Gamble, Football Federation of Australia. It also retaining Snooze following a competitive pitch.
