News Corp owned Sky News Australia has stopped publishing on social media platform TikTok amids national security fears.

The media owner has 65,000 followers and millions of views on the platform, but is halting "in favour of adopting a consistent approach to security which protects our journalists and audiences," Sky News Australia's digital editor Jack Houghton said.

"The risks are far too great for any serious news publisher to ignore and the gains are negligible at best."

The annoucement comes after the Australian federal government banned TikTok from devices issued by Commonwealth departments and agencies.

Sky News Australia is not asking staff to delete the app from personal devices.
