Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) is bringing back the 90.9 Sea FM brand in the Gold Coast, after renaming it under the Hit Network brand in 2019.
The 90.9 Sea FM brand, which returns on August 12, is the final heritage brand to return as part of the Hit network’s strategy of bringing back heritage brands for key metro markets, including B105 in Brisbane and SAFM in Adelaide last year.
“It’s exciting to once again put the much loved 90.9 Sea FM back into the Gold Coast as the final part of the Hit Network strategy of returning those big heritage brands back into our key metro markets that our audiences have such great, passionate memories of,” says SCA chief content officer Dave Cameron.
“90.9 Sea FM has always been a legendary and hugely successful local radio brand owned by Gold Coast listeners, as it will be again.”
There will be no changes to the talent line-up or the station’s ‘feel great’, pop music format which was introduced last year.
“Our new content director Kim Czosnek also joins 90.9 Sea FM tomorrow and brings her immense experience with leading teams and bringing creative and compelling ideas to life,” head of the Hit Network Gemma Fordham.
“Having started her radio career at SCA, we are so delighted that she is returning. We can’t wait for listeners to once again see the 90.9 Sea FM name on the Gold Coast and all the wonderful memories that go with it.”
When changing the station's name to Hit90.9 in 2019, SCA said it was part of a strategy to create a more unified national brand, similar to the Triple M network.
