RMIT’s Hungry Talks is back for 2023 with industry guests from Thinkerbell, CultureVerse and Howatson+Company.

The 10 week series is run by six advertising and 20 Cert IV screen and media students in their final year of study at RMIT, with supervisors John Dingeldei and Chris Paterson.

Each year, a new team of students host some of the advertising industry’s brightest minds. In previous years, Hungry Talks has been joined by Russell Howcroft, Dee Madigan, Matt Stoddart, Shannon Crowe, Stu Turner, Cam Blackley, Lucinda ‘Froomes’ Price and Sarah McGregor.

Charlie Borracci, host of Hungry Talks 2023, said every member is learning along the way, collaborating with one another.

“It’s a reflection of what it would be like in the industry,” she said.

Borracci and fellow RMIT final year student, Jaia Guildford-Carey, will co-host Hungry Talks each Wednesday from 5:30pm to a live audience of more than 20 people.

Every week there is an industry guest, either live on the show or pre-recorded, says Borracci.

“We've reached out to many different agencies and relevant contacts as well as students, so it's not only engaging for a university audience but for people in the wider community as well,” she said.

“The overall the vibe of the show is going to be very fun, colourful, informative and engaging.

That’s where the team are trying to get the most balance, by making it relevant to students and giving them useful tips, she says.

“As well as making it a program that they’re going to want to watch every week and tune in on a Wednesday night.

The 'ad of the week’ segment in Hungry Talks revolves around discussions of relevant advertisements, inviting current students to converse on the topic and unpack what each ad means.

Borracci notes other segments include skits in which the panel will guess popular jingles, slogans and songs in the advertising sector.

“We also have a strong focus on interviews and looking at different perspectives evolving in the industry,” said Borracci.

Chelsea Addison, creative producer of Hungry Talks, said this Wednesday - the first episode - will feature two recent graduates from Thinkerbell.

“We've got Zoe Blochlinger, assistant production tinker, and Erin Beers, brand thinker at Thinkerbell, coming in live said Addison.

The following week Hungry Talks will hear from Tyler Hamilton, conversational AI specialist lead from Deloitte Digital.

Followed by industry professionals from Howatson+Company including managing partner Rebecca Robertson and chief media officer Sasha Smith,” said Addison.

The series will then feature Belle Kwan, account director and multicultural storyteller from CultureVerse.

John Burgess, CEO and director of strategy, and Kelsey Dubar, marketing and events manager at Little RocketFirst Nations owned and operated full-service marketing and creative agency in Collingwood, will also be joining Hungry Talks this season.

Hungry Talks is a glimpse into the diverse advertising landscape in Australia. Different industry professionals and new recruits will join the show each episode, with a new theme every week.
