Pinterest has introduced new features to fight false and misleading content as the federal election approaches.
The social media platform says no public figures are exempt from following community guideline. If someone publishes innapropriate content or hate speech, action will be taken no matter who they are.
The elections will not be monetised. Since 2018 political campigns have not been accepted on Pinterest and therefore searches for votes and polling places will not be shown.
Search advisory will redirect consumers to the Electoral Commission Website when searching for election related information on Pinterest.
Pinterest will also be limiting the amount of election-related content in places such as the home feed and notifications.
"As we get closer to Election Day, we know public discourse will grow louder, and we want Pinterest to remain a place for inspiration and positivity," says Pinterest.
"That’s why, as we near each election, we’ll limit search recommendations for election-related content in places like the home feed, related Pins, notifications or “more ideas” within a board."
