Pinterest is expanding its shopping features to a number of markets including Australia, giving more users the ability to shop within the app.

As part of the roll out, which also covers Canada, France, and Germany, users will be able to shop from Pins, on boards, from search, and through the Lens camera search.

Users will also be able to get inspiration from Shopping Spotlights which showcase expert recommendations and trends from fashion and home influencers and publishers.

The expansion comes as Pinterest reports that the number of users engaging with shopping surfaces on the app grew more than 200% over the past year.

The increase in online shopping has been seen across many social media platforms since the start of the pandemic. This has led to platforms, including Instagram and Snapchat, boosting their investment in ecommerce tools.

“We want to help users to find products just right for them and feel confident that they've made a solid choice from reputable merchants with a seamless shopping experience,” says Pinterest global head of shopping products Dan Lurie.

“We’re excited that Pinterest users in more countries will now be able to go from inspiration to purchase anywhere on Pinterest, bringing us one step closer to our goal of making every Pin easy to shop.”

The new tools include Shopping List, a way for users to have their product Pins automatically saved in one place, shop from search, wich gives users 100% shoppable results when they search for inspirations, and Shop with Lens, which allows users to take a picture of a real-world objects using the Pinterest camera and search for similar items to shop.
