Ten's season premiere of Offspring had an average metro audience of 724,000 and came in second across key advertiser demographics. Ten reports the premier nearly cracked an average of one million viewers nationwide, with 996,000 viewers tuning in, peaking at 1.58 million.
MasterChef was the most watched entertainment show last night, with an average metro audience of 904,000. The show also had the largest audience across key advertising demographics.
The network's chief content officer Beverley McGarvey says Offspring had a strong start as it was the “#1 Australian drama series launch of the year in people 25 to 54, and dominated social media last night” as well as “dominating” social media.
“All Australian drama series have seen some audience declines this year in terms of their overnight ratings. But Offspring’s audience will grow dramatically over the next week through TV and online catch-up viewing. Last year, catch-up viewing boosted Offspring’s audience by an impressive 30%,” McGarvey says.
Despite strong prime time viewing on Channel Ten, Nine still had the largest audience share with 18%, followed by Seven (17.7%) and Ten (16.5%).
Seven News was both the top program as well as the top bulletin of the night, drawing in an average metro audience of 1.08 million. Seven's drama series Criminal Minds attracted an average metro audience of 451,000.
