OMA CEO steps in for OzHarvest charity cookoff

Outdoor Media Association (OMA) CEO Charmaine Moldrich has put on the oven mitts to take part in the OzHarvest CEO cookoff.

Moldrich and her daughter, chef O Tama Carey will join other CEOs for the cookoff on 7 March to help make a difference to the lives of vulnerable people across Australia.

The CEO Cookoff sees top bosses feed – and entertain - 1000 people in need with their cooking prowess, in a bid to raise a minimum of $1.5 million.

Moldrich has a $12,000 goal and has already come close to reaching the benchmark, raising $10,240. To help out, click here.

VICE Sports launches in Australia and New Zealand

VICE Sports Australia & New Zealand joins VICE’s established channels in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, and Spain — launching with video content featuring the world’s youngest ever #1 golfer Lydia Ko of New Zealand, and Tanzanian/Australian boxing champion Omari Kimweri. The channel will focus on sports stories beyond the stadium.

SMG’s Thumb Drift reaches two million downloads

SMG Studio’s new mobile game Thumb Drift has reached two million downloads in its first week, making it the number one racing game in 60 countries including Australia and the US. Thumb Drift is the fourth game developed by SMG, Soap Creative’s games studio. SMG Studios and Soap Creative are a company within Isobar, a global digital marketing agency under the Dentsu Aegis Network. 

Westfarmers completes Homebase acquisition

Wesfarmers, the paretn company of Bunnings, has completed the acquisition of UK hardware store Homebase for £340 million ($658 million). The acquisition is Westfarmers first foray into the UK and adds 15,000 employees.

“We welcome our new employees and are excited about the opportunity to bring the best of Bunnings to the UK and Ireland,” Westfarmers managing director Richard Goyder says. 

MediaMath ANZ boss exits

Country manager ANZ at MediaMath, Stuart Bartram, has left the ad tech business and a replacement has not yet been found.
Bartram had been at the firm for 18 months and prior to MediaMath he was MD APAC at the Rubicon Project. He has also worked at Salesforce and LinkedIn.

LinkedIn allows marketers to target up to 30,000 companies

LinkedIn is now allowing marketers to target user profiles on a list of companies they want to reach, with specific campaigns.

The function, called LinkedIn Account Targeting sees marketers provide a list of up to 30,000 companies they want to reach which it will cross-reference against the 8 million companies in its database.

The Guardian remains resolute on paywall

The Guardian editor has told UK press that it won’t set up a paywall for its online site.

Katharine Viner told Campaign UK that despite economic difficulties for the sector, the publication is sticking with its instinct that native advertising is the way forward.

Viner previously headed up the Australian arm of The Guardian when it launched.

ADMA names Bendall 30Below chair

The Association of Data-driven Marketing and Advertising (ADMA) has appointed Kayleigh Bendall as chair of its 30Below community. Bendall, who replaces Sue Kim, is the relationship manager at Digital Logic Marketing Solutions.

30Below is ADMA’s professional networking group for young marketers, bringing different groups of the marketing and advertising industry together to share thoughts, experiences and network with leading industry figures.

Sydney Opera House and Adobe strike deal

The Sydney Opera House (SOH) and Adobe have unveiled a two-year partnership designed to "underpin the Opera House’s digital transformation".

SOH will from now on use Adobe's Marketing Cloud to engage more effectively with audiences and visitors across web, email, mobile apps and social channels.

Each year more than 8.2 million people visit the Opera House. 

Val Morgan Outdoor appoints GM, Sales and Marketing

Val Morgan Outdoor has promoted current director of sales, Paul Butler, to the newly created role of GM, sales and marketing.

Val Morgan Outdoor MD Anthony Deeble says the promotion will see Butler “continue to lead our strong sales performance as well as strengthen our brand and product position in market”. The appointment is effective immediately.

Pacific Magazine’s announces Youth Portfolio hires

Daniel Findlay, currently K-Zone Editor, has been appointed editor-in-chief across Pacific’s leading youth portfolio, including, Girlfriend, Total Girl and K-Zone whilst Tamara Davis has been appointed editor of girlfriend and Total Girl. Louise Meers will be stepping into a managing editor role at K-Zone, having been the brand’s deputy editor for the past year.

Bauer Media appoints head of trade marketing

Bauer Media has announced Claudine Hall has been appointed head of trade marketing. Hall was previously trade marketing director – media solutions at Fairfax Media. She will be responsible for all trade marketing initiatives across Bauer Media’s multi-platform media brands and Bauer’s digital division, Bauer Xcel Media.

Publicis.Sapient acquire Vertiba

Publicis.Sapient, part of Publicis Group, has announced it has acquired Vertiba, a salesforce consulting partner specialising in the delivery of Salesforce cloud solutions for data-driven marketing, sales and customer service. The partnership will see Publicis.Sapient leverage cloud-based technology to engage with its customers in new ways.

Blue 449 expands into Hong Kong

Blue 449, part of the ZenithOptimedia group, has opened its ninth network office with the launch of the agency in Hong Kong. This is the second office launch in Asia-Pacific for the new network, having acquired Match Media in June 2015.
