Rachel Walker appointed Saatchi's chief strategy officer
Saatchi & Saatchi has appointed Rachel Walker chief strategy officer. She was previously hThe new role marks a move back to the Publicis Groupe network. She was global strategy director at Publicis London in 2010-13. Walker will work across a range of portfolios, including Vodafone and Arnott’s.
Thinkerbell's new leadership roles
Thinkerbell has appointed additional leadership roles across its three offices - The South (Melbourne), The North (Sydney) and Aotearoa (NZ). In The South, Nick Bennett has been promoted to the role of general manager in Melbourne. Tom Wenborn has been promoted to chief creative tinker in The South and Paul Swann to chief creative tinker in The North. Thinkerbell also welcomes a new national head of integrated production in Jacqueline Archer. She will be responsible for guiding Thinkerbell’s model within the production process across all Thinkerbell productions, both externally and internally. Laura Stevenson returns to Australia after living and working in the UK for the previous five years to lead the Lion account as executive head thinker.
Rupert Price moves to DDB Sydney to be chief strategy officer
DDB Sydney has appointed Rupert Price as the agency’s new chief strategy officer. Price, with a 25-year career in agencies across London and New Zealand, has spent the last 12 years as DDB Group Aotearoa’s chief strategy officer. In his time at DDB Group Aotearoa, Price achieved numerous accolades from Cannes Gold Lions to a D&AD Black Pencil. Price will now lead the Sydney's planning department across clients such as Westpac, Volkswagen Group and McDonald’s.
Leo Burnett promotes Stacey Karayannis to creative director
Leo Burnett Australia has promoted associate creative director Stacey Karayannis to creative director in Melbourne. Karayannis joined the industry after graduating from AWARD school, starting as an art director at Leo Burnett Australia in 2015. She has been a key creative force for clients such as Diageo, HBF and Vitasoy. Karayannis will continue to elevate the craft and creative impact of the agency’s portfolio, helping clients innovate and achieve sustainable growth.
Mason Rook leaves The Guardian
The Guardian's commercial director of sales and operations for Australia & New Zealand, Mason Rook, has resigned. He was in the position since August 2020, having joined the publisher in May 2019. Prior to The Guardian, he worked as a commercial director at ARN and The Daily Mail, following a 10-year stint at Nine that saw him ascend to a sales director position. He has also served as a board member of IAB Australia since September 2022.
Tessa Ogle named editor-in-chief of relaunched Cosmopolitan
Tessa Ogle will become editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine when it relaunches in Australia on August 12. Ogle, following roles at The Age newspaper and The Conversation, moved from news to fashion and beauty, launching Harper's BAZAAR and Esquire online as digital director. After consulting and writing for various luxury and women’s titles including T Magazine (NYTimes Style Magazine) Australia, she moved to the role of digital managing editor at Marie Claire and ELLE and supported the relaunch of ELLE magazine. Joining her as commercial director is Zoe Davis.
Southern Cross Media (SCA) chief marketing officer Nikki Clarkson is leaving the media company. The broadcaster didn't respond to questions from AdNews on whether or not the departure was part of a redundancy round. Insiders say other cuts have happened. The news follows other redundancies for publishers this week, citing economic headwinds and a fall in the advertising market as the cause.
Interbrand promotes Megan Schierhout to associate creative director
Brand consultancy Interbrand Australia has promoted design director Megan Schierhout to associate creative director. Schierhout has beenwith Interbrand Australia since 2021, having previously worked with design agencies, Re (part of the M&C Saatchi Group), Designworks (owned by WPP) and Sydney-based consultancy ET Collective. Interbrand Australia CEO Nathan Birch said Schierhout is set to bring a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to her new role.
Bohemia appoints Natasha Young group trading & partnerships lead
Media agency Bohemia, part of the M&C Saatchi Group, has appointed Natasha Young to the newly created role of group trading & partnerships director. Young has been at Bohemia for six years and her previous role was as client lead on a number of accounts including Australian Retirement Trust, which the agency won following a competitive pitch in 2023. Young's experience also sits in Bohemia clients across banking & finance, retail, furniture and clothing and event ticketing.
Seven reshapes sport division with Chris Jones at helm
Seven West Media has appointed Chris Jones to the new role of director of network sport. Jones was previously executive producer of Seven’s cricket coverage. Over the past 20 years, he has worked on AFL, cricket, summer and winter Olympics, US Masters, Australian Open tennis, Australian Open golf and more. Jones joined Seven in 2000 as a junior reporter. After stints at Nine Network and Thrive PR, he returned to Seven as a senior sport producer in 2009. He was appointed an executive producer in 2018.
Adobe appoints Keith Eadie APAC GM
Adobe has appointed Keith Eadie general manager for Asia Pacific, reporting to Adobe Enterprise's chief revenue officer Stephen Frieder. Eadie joined Adobe almost seven years ago through the acquisition of TubeMogul, where he was chief marketing and strategy officer.
