More advertiser demand as The Hunger Games smashes box office records

The latest instalment of The Hunger Games saga has smashed the box office on its opening weekend, raking in $11.9 million, making it the highest grossing opening weekend this year in Australia. 

Its weekend takings put it millions ahead of the year’s previous record-holder, Transformers: Age of Extinction and it also claimed the biggest opening day of the year taking $2.8 million on Thursday 20 November.

Val Morgan has experienced a huge demand from advertisers. It expects the film to make a further $35 million in revenue over the coming weeks, with advertising spots still available. That is an audience of 2.7 million.

Dan Hill managing director Val Morgan Cinema Network commented, “Advertiser interest has also been very strong with over 18 advertisers choosing to directly align with this release.”  

Hill refers to the history books when it comes to projected revenue and advertising interest for the second part of the finale. He said: “The second part of a finale will always outperform its predecessor by up to 24%. In November 2015 Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 could well deliver over $37 million.”

“There is a broad mix of categories advertising across cinema and as a result a good mix of brands,” Hill added.
