MediaCom, part of WPP's investment arm GroupM, has been appointed as Duracell’s global media agency of record, following a competitive pitch.
The win covers 32 markets, including Australia, the US, UK and China. The account will be run out of the Sydney office in Australia.
The global account was previously managed by Starcom.
MediaCom will take over the business on July 1.
The Duracell pitch started in November and the key chemistry meetings and face-to-face presentations were completed before the lockdown began in many markets.
“The future is battery powered. Duracell is an iconic brand and it gives us great pride to welcome them back into the MediaCom family," MediaCom global chief operating officer Nick Lawson says.
"We are excited to apply our unique expertise and strategic thinking through our standout people."
Lawson was named as MediaCom worldwide CEO and chairman Stephen Allan's replacement for the top job earlier this week, effective from July 1.
Allan announced he would step down after 12 years in the role and 38 years with the agency.
Duracell appointed fellow WPP agency Wunderman Thompson to its global creative account last year.
