Bauer eyes takeover of Southern Cross Austereo

The Australian is reporting that publisher Bauer is still eyeing a billion dollar take-over of Southern Cross Austereo. The rumours about Bauer getting into the radio game have been swirling since October with the last known network they were interested in being Nova, however The Australian now speculates the SCA conversations could be in a bid to get Nova to the negotiations table.

Media reform pushed back?

The federal cabinet's debate around media reform is said to have been pushed back until the final sitting week of parliament for the year, due to more issues of national security in wake of the Paris attacks. The Australian Financial Review is reporting it is now thought that communications minister Mitch Fifield's submission will at least be debated in cabinet next Monday, 30 November, before parliament disbands for the summer.

Ten to resist Gordon on the board

Also in the AFR, Network Ten is said to be wanting to resist attempts by billionaire Bruce Gordon to get a position on the board of the free-to-air broadcaster, due to his stake in rival broadcaster Nine. The Win Corp owner was widely expected to get fresh representation on the board of Ten once Foxtel received approval to take a 14.99% stake in the third placed metropolitan broadcaster, as it did last month.

Fairfax slashes metro jobs

The Australian's media diary is reporting Fairfax is set to slash 150 jobs on top of the previous cuts the publisher has made to its marketing and product divisions. According to The Australian, the cuts will be coming from the publisher's metro media division, with the job losses expected to completed by May.
