Marie Claire is launching a men’s edition to give all the men that already read the women's edition, something a bit more tailored.
The women's title has a total readership of 506,000 and claims 51,000 men read the mag each month already. More than half Marie Claire's readers (56%) are married or living in de-facto relationships – so husbands and boyfriends are sneaking a peak at their partners' copy of the fashion and beauty mag.
The new supplement offers advertisers an avenue to appeal to those men directly. The inaugural issue features an interview with Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington aka Jon Snow, Aussie blokes including media personalities Andrew Rochford and Andrew O’Keefe, and artist Vincent Fantauzzo.
The September issue is out today (7 August) and the 52-page men's magazine will be available as a free download, and an interactive iPad edition includes exclusive content and videos.
Jackie Frank, Marie Claire editor/publisher said: "Over the years a lot of women have said to me that their copies of Marie Claire often go missing, only to be found in the possession of the men in their lives. It seems men also love reading Marie Claire – for the articles, of course. This got me thinking: why not give them something they can call their own? A magazine for the modern male who likes his style diet served with intelligent reads. And thus, the idea for Marie Claire man was conceived.
"While we recognise we have only just scratched the surface of what’s possible, we believe this is the magazine the traditional Marie Claire reader would give to the man in her life - and then steal back later to read for herself. With Father’s Day just around the corner, and so many of our advertisers keen to promote their new season fashion, accessories, fragrance and grooming products, it was a natural addition to our September Fashion Issue."
