Learn from the marketing leaders of tomorrow

The Marketing Academy programme is almost over for its second year with the delegates preparing to share their learnings back to the industry as part of the end of year showcase.

The Marketing Academy, which was launched by founder Sherilyn Shackell in 2015, offers 30 marketers and agency side executives a nine month mentoring and personal development programme with access to some of the most high profile marketers and business leaders in the country, as well as a series of educational lectures.

It is designed to build marketers'' confidence and prepare them to take on more senior leadership roles within business, and the delegates have nothing but glowing reviews.

It's described as "life-changing” and a “once in a lifetime” experience with many of the delegates already earning promotions since signing up to the programme.

A core pillar of the not-for-profit programme is being able to “give back” to the industry and pass learnings on to others with the aim of raising the standards and capabilities across the board.

The end of year showcase is an opportunity for the 30 delegates to do just that in a series of presentations and panel debates about culture, harnessing passion and utilising authentic leadership as means to improve performance, people engagement and commercial results. Get tickets here.

Sherilyn Shackell says: “We’re delighted to have our next group of Australian marketing leaders share their views on leadership and the future of marketing in Australia. For everyone in marketing, media or working within an agency, come along to hear how you too can lead marketing’s contribution in the boardrooms of the future.”

Speakers from the programme include: Sergio Brodsky, Starcom strategy director; Google head of consumer marketing Gabi Conlon, MediaCom ECD Gemma Hunter, Tina Walsberger, head of marketing and consumer services at Sydney Festival; Andrew Howie, group marketing manager at Meat & Livestock Australia and Claire Salvetti, managing director of One Green Bean.

The Showcase Lecture will be hosted by Val Morgan Cinema Group and held at Event Cinema, George Street, Sydney on 27 October 2016 . Tickets are free to anyone in the industry. You can register here.

Sergio Brodsky, Starcom strategy director, says at Starcom

“My outlook to both life and career have changed for the better. And, I’m sure the TMA network will keep inspiring several positive changes in the many years to come. Quite frankly, The Marketing Academy has exceeded all my expectations. In hoping to learn new skills, I ended up learning a lot more about myself and to embrace my true potential. A quote I got from Sherilyn encapsulates it all:  “Great leaders don’t conceal, they reveal. Only when we share our true selves, even at the potential risk of ridicule, can we begin to earn the privilege of leading others.”

Another core element of the programme is the peer network it developed, meaning that a generation of marketers are more able to help each other excel and navigate the challenges they face, which strengthens the marketing industry in Australia.

Simon Davenport , Oficeoworks national advertising and communications manager says: “The highlight was meeting and sharing a life changing experience which such an amazing, diverse and passionate group of future industry leaders. My expectations were to learn more about my leadership potential, but instead I finished up learning more about myself as a person and how I can help and support others in their career and life journey. Now I know the sky is truly the limit.”
The programme was sponsored by Foxtel, Google, Commonwealth Bank and NewsCorp.

Individual sessions throughout the programme were sponsored by Kmart, Clemenger BBDO, IAG, Macquarie University, Seven West Media and Sydney Opera House.

The Marketing Academy is in its sixth year in the UK and is eyeing a US launch next year. Nominations for the 2017 programme open in November. We'll be sharing more details when they are available and over the next few days we'll share some of the highlights and lessons learned by this year's class.
