Kim Wilson will take the reins of The Australian Women's Weekly. She replaces Helen McCabe, who unexpectedly left the country's highest selling monthly magazine last month.

McCabe resigned in January after six years with the publication, saying her decision was the “right move”.

Wilson has extensive experience in women’s publishing. She joins from NewsLifeMedia, where she was editor-in-chief of Kidspot.com.au. Previously, Wilson was the editor-in-chief of Pacific Magazine’s New Idea for five years.

Australian Women’s Weekly publisher Matt Dominello says Wilson leads the editorial team into an exciting new era.

“Kim is an award-winning editor with over 15 years’ experience, launching and driving some of the biggest local and international women’s media brands across both print and digital.”

Juliet Rieden will be acting editor-in-chief until Wilson starts the role in coming months.

Wilsons joins Bauer at a time of turmoil. In January, declining readership led to the closure of Cleo, while McCabe's sudden exit fuelled rumours of unrest.

Bauer is yet to announce who will be appointed as CEO and director of sales at the company.
