The ABC is contemplating job cuts because of the government freeze on the national broadcaster’s budget.
Last year the Coalition government said it would freeze the ABC’s annual funding at the same level for three years, a move that will cost the broadcaster $83.7 million.
ABC managing director David Anderson told a Senate Estimate hearings the freezer would result in job losses. However, he didn't give further details.
"There will be job losses," Anderson says. "It's not something I can quantify at this point in time, there's still more work to be done.
“As we look at the efficiency of what we’re doing, some of it relates to people’s employment, some of it does not.
“Efficiency comes in many forms, so I’m reluctant to put a number on that at the moment.”
The ABC employs employs 4,939 people, the equivalent of 4,183 full time employees.
Funding from the government in 2018 was a bit more than $1 billion.
