Jens Monsees, who has quit WPP AUNZ after the takeover by the UK holding company, has told staff he is confident of the future of the business in Australia.

"The agencies within WPP AUNZ are in a great position to grow and continue to be successful, especially as they begin to form closer connections with their global counterparts and the wider WPP network," he says in an email.

"I am very confident about the strength of the business and that is a really good feeling to have as I move on to a new chapter.

"I look forward to staying in touch, and catching up with people to say a more personal farewell."

The note in full:

Team,

By now you will have seen the email from Mark Read, WPP’s global CEO, announcing that I have decided to step down as CEO of WPP AUNZ.

After the successful completion of WPP’s full acquisition of the company this week, and the huge progress we have made together as a company, I feel this is the right time to begin a new challenge.

From the moment I joined WPP AUNZ in October 2019 I was struck by the warmth, the talent and the dedication of the people who make up this great company. I will always feel very grateful to all of you for the support and friendship you have shown to me.

It was a big move for me and my family, in a lot of ways. And it is fair to say that my time with WPP AUNZ was not as I, or anyone, had anticipated. COVID-19 presented challenges that none of us could have foreseen.

The way you all responded to the pandemic was truly incredible and I could not have been more proud to be the CEO of a business with people who had such commitment to their clients and to each other. It has been a real privilege.

I am also extremely proud of what we have achieved as one team, through a transformation that leaves WPP AUNZ a growing, more future-proof business with a strong culture, modern marketing capabilities and a very positive future ahead of it. These accomplishments and the financial turnaround we achieved are testament to the work and collaboration of a great many colleagues across our company.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the WPP AUNZ Board, the executive team, our agency leaders and each and every one of you who has made this such a special and rewarding experience for me and my family. I would also like to thank Mark, Andrew Scott and the entire WPP community, for the support they have given me and the rest of the WPP AUNZ team.

The agencies within WPP AUNZ are in a great position to grow and continue to be successful, especially as they begin to form closer connections with their global counterparts and the wider WPP network. I am very confident about the strength of the business and that is a really good feeling to have as I move on to a new chapter.

I look forward to staying in touch, and catching up with people to say a more personal farewell.

Best,

Jens
