Outdoor media group JCDecaux has decided to axe sending Christmas hams to clients.
The company in 2020 put a hold on sending Christmas hams around the country and instead partnered with food charity OzHarvest.
"Firstly, we feel that providing charity support is more important especially this year when people are struggling due to the state of the economy," JCDecaux told AdNews.
"Noting that our clients (the recipients of the hams) have been understanding, supportive and in favour of us making this decision.
"They agree that we’re better off supporting our charity partners than providing ham to people who can afford to buy their own.
"We will once again be making a donation to our charity partner OzHarvest who provide food relief to people experiencing food insecurity, this is in addition to the other aspects of our partnership we provide them throughout the year.
"Secondly, with diversity, equality and inclusion a key part of our employee strategy, we have taken the decision to move on from the ham tradition to be mindful of being inclusive, as not everyone celebrates Christmas or eats ham whether that’s for religious or other reasons.
"We will keep the door open for an inclusive gift for next year and beyond, which may involve our much loved ham tradition, but also takes into account cultural and religious diversity options as well."
