RMIT’s advertising talk show Hungry Talks was back this week with ‘Oh the places you’ll go!’.

The fifth instalment in the series looked at the broad spectrum of roles, careers and people within the advertising industry.

The show delved into the diversity of roles and opportunities that the industry has to offer with mention of full time, freelance and working-from-home arrangements.

Joining Hungry Talks in the studio was Liam Jenkins, art director, and Annie Little, strategy director, at The Royals.

Interviews featured Jacob Yallouz, Swinburne advertising student working in the music industry, as well as two recent RMIT advertising graduates, Shani Moon and Alanna Caluya, who discussed their network initiative for young creatives.

Jenkins is a past RMIT advertising student who graduated in 2017. Since then, he has worked at Haystac and Ogilvy.

At Ogilvy, he worked alongside his copywriting creative partner Siobhan Joffe. The two continue to work alongside each other at The Royals. Their recent campaign was BetterWith Age for sexual health brand, Wild Secrets.

Little at The Royals is from the UK, where she has done a combination of freelance and full-time work as an advertising strategy.

She has been a mentor for The Aunties, and her two years at The Royals has seen her work across several brands including Smiling Mind, Deliveroo, and Brain Cancer Centre.

The Royals provided this week’s Quick Brief – a your-choice-of-media' campaign with the challenge: to sell a youth brand to the over 70s, without changing the product or resorting to stereotypically senior benefits.

Students were challenged to sell boomers as the next big thing. The winning student response will receive an internship at The Royals office in Cremorne.

Past students Moon and Caluya discussed their achievements and successes since graduating. The pair also revealed the launch of their new co-founded creative collective, ICYMI ‘In Case You Missed It’.

The mentorship, networking programme is in its early phases and will aim to help young creatives as they graduate university and enter full time work.

They aim to bridge the gap between being a student, and a young professional who is respected and fulfilled in their workplace.

Hungry Talks will be taking next week off, and returning from 7:30pm from Wednesday, September 6. The final episode will air on October 4. For the remainder of the season, Hungry Talks will be starting at 7:30pm, and doing a rebrand to a late-night edition theme.
