Foxtel and NBCUniversal International Networks are launching a DreamWorks pop-up channel in June.
The move will provide Foxtel customers exclusive access to the DreamWorks channel, which is already available across Asia, Europe and the Middle East, for the first time in Australia. It comes as people continue to spend more time at home as restrictions continue throughout the nation to slow the spread of coronavirus.
“We’re delighted to work together with our partners at NBCUniversal to provide this additional channel at no extra cost throughout June for our residential customers at a time we know Australians are watching more and more Foxtel at home,” says Foxtel chief commercial officer Amanda Laing.
The channel will be available for all residential subscribers from June 1 to June 30.
“We are excited to be able to extend our partnership with Foxtel to offer Australians this pop-up channel with 24-hour access to some of the best-known DreamWorks franchises and characters, bringing the magic of adventure and imagination to our screens,” says Chris Taylor, NBCUniversal International Networks and Television Distribution AUNZ managing director.
“We couldn’t think of a more fitting time to be able to give Australians their fix of premium kids and family entertainment while isolating at home.”
Foxtel, majority-owned by News Corp, has been dealing with the financial fallout caused by the pandemic. It’s experienced high levels of cancellations, with its sports streaming platform Kayo hit hard by the suspension of live sports.
The broadcaster, which made 200 roles redundant in April, launched a range of initiatives for subscribers throughout the lockdowns, including unlocking more of its library to subscribers for free.
Foxtel also launched Binge this Monday, its second bid at a streaming platform to take on competitors such as Stan and Netflix.
