Foxtel has launched its latest set top box, the iQ5, which gives access its library of content with no cable or satellite needed.

The "plug and play" iQ5 allows customers to stream up to 50,000 hours of Foxtel content within minutes.

“Today we take another major step forward in our strategy to reimagine Foxtel Group as Australia’s most dynamic streaming company,” says Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany.

“Our strategy is to strengthen Foxtel by making it an outstanding premium experience for Australian families. We want to create more reasons for our customers to love us and more reasons for new customers to choose us.”

The iQ5 has apps such as Netflix, YouTube, ABC iView available to stream, with Vevo and Amazon Prime Video to join in the future.

“The iQ5 not only makes it easier for our existing 1.7 million customers to enjoy the best Foxtel has to offer, this streaming iQ opens up Foxtel’s premium experience to another group of Australians who could not access cable or didn’t want satellite,” Delany says.

“This latest innovation requires no install, so subscribers can simply plug in and start streaming the best Australian and international sport, acclaimed dramas, blockbuster movies along with our selection of 100 live channels.

“We believe the future of the premium Foxtel brand and the iQ5 together with a wider set of integrated apps confirms our strategy for Foxtel to be the Australian aggregator of the world’s best streaming content.”

The new device will be available to select Foxtel subscribers from early September and will become more widely available later this year.
