Foxtel has appointed former news.com.au editor-in-chief Kate de Brito to work on a new streaming platform focused on news content.
The service, reportedly called NewsFlash, will be the third streaming platform from Foxtel, following Kayo and Binge.
According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, NewsFlash is expected to launch this year for about $5 a month with content from Foxtel’s news channels such as Sky News Australia.
A Foxtel spokesperson confirmed the appointment of de Brito who will work on the “business case” for the news streaming platform, along with other necessary planning should the service go ahead.
De Brito worked as editor-in-chief at news.com.au from 2016 until December last year. Previously, she had been editor-in-chief at Mamamia.
Foxtel also confirmed that James Law, editor at News Corp Australia’s newly launched newswire, has also joined de Brito to work on the streaming platform.
Foxtel has been growing its subscriber base for Binge and Kayo.
Binge, which launched just over a year ago, at 700,000 total subscribers at the end of March. Its sports streaming platform Kayo passed one million total subscribers earlier this year.
