Fetch TV boosts movie content

Sony Pictures new home entertainment release Easy A.

IPTV provider FetchTV has signed deals with four film studios, as competition in the Australian internet video market heats up.

Fox Studios, Madman Entertainment, Sony Pictures and WWE Entertainment have joined Fetch TV, joining Disney, Hopscotch, Icon, Lionsgate, Paramount, Roadshow and Universal.

FetchTV said chief executive Scott Lorson told AdNews: “The vast majority of movies rented or bought are new-release titles and we’ve worked hard to agree deals with more studios than anyone else in Australia to bring the widest selection of new-release movies to our viewers.

"If you provide a download service that provides only 50-60% of the new releases people want to see, it won't encourange them to change their behaviour."

Lorson said the company will also offer dedicated high-definition television channels later this year, as well as provide 3D movies, and add more ISP partners.

The move comes as competition in the IPTV sector heats up, with Foxtel recently signing an agreement with Telstra to offer content through the T-Box, in a deal similar to one struck with Microsoft's XBox last year.
