Fairfax upped the ante in the AdNews Challenge with the team raising more funds than any other – a feat which was rewarded by Active International Australia.
Besides putting themselves through the ropes in a series of events challenging their fitness and agility at the annual AdNews charity fundraising event, Fairfax's team also raised more than $3,000.
Of that total, $1,000 was collected by team member James Melouney alone.
Active International Australia stepped up and provided that extra bit of motivation for the fundraising efforts, donating $1,000 in prizes to the most innovative fundraising idea and the largest fundraising contribution – with Fairfax winning in both categories.
Despite the wind and rain on the day, Fairfax ladies' team also excelled in the athletics department, taking in runner up for Best Ladies Team and runner up for Best Kayak Female for Fiona Clarke.
Joining Clarke and Melouney on the Fairfax team were Richard Emanuel, Jessica Abrahams, Anthony Lasorsa, Gemma Morris and Gabby Lopez.
The event, held at the Clifton Gardens Reserve in Mosman, is not for the faint-hearted involving a 2km kayak, a 6km run and 1km swim and – in a new twist – a 1km stand up paddleboard.
While most challenge participants braved the course in teams of four, 13 individuals completed it solo.
The Fairfax fundraising victory was its second effort for the week, with staff donning their aprons in the Great Fairfax Bake Off on November 9. Their culinary endeavours resulted in $550 being raised from the sale of more than 200 slices of baked goodness.
Money fundraised at the AdNews Challenge goes to UnLtd, a not-for-profit foundation representing the media, marketing and advertising industry.
This year's major sponsor of the Challenge was ESPN Digital. Supporting sponsors were Alto LandRover, Amobee, Fairfax Media, Mindshare, Rocket Fuel, Seven West Media, Videology. Associate sponsors are Atomic 212, GSP Print, Starcom Mediavest Group and Lavender.
