Fairfax Media's Digital Ventures division has acquired a minority stake in children's learning business Skoolbo.
Founded in 2011, Skoolbo is a leader in game-based learning for children and is focused on the core skills of literacy and numeracy, as well as health and fitness.
Skoolbo’s multimedia platform brings together web, mobile, TV and social media. Skoolbo is founded by Shane Hill, who was previously the founding CEO of 3P Learning (Mathletics).
The platform launched in early 2014 and more than 50% of all Australian and New Zealand primary schools are now registered on it. The platform is also expanding globally.
Guy Reypert, group director of Fairfax Digital Ventures, said: “This investment gives
Fairfax exposure to the fast-growing online education sector, which allows highquality
learning resources to be delivered at scale and low cost. We look forward to working with Shane, a proven entrepreneur in online education, to accelerate the growth of Skoolbo and we see numerous ways that our businesses can work together as partners.”
Skoolbo’s founder and chief executive officer, Shane Hill, said: “Skoolbo represents long-term value to teachers and students. We provide a fun, interactive and highly-engaging digital learning experience – the perfect environment for children to feel motivated to learn and improve their skills. We are delighted to partner with Fairfax Media, and see strong alignment in both our strategic interests and values.”
