Facebook has signed letters of intent with three independent news publishers in Australia.

The deals with Private Media, Schwartz Media and Solstice Media will provide Facebook with new journalism, including previously paywalled content, for its platform.

Commercial details have not be revealed.

The deals come on the day Facebook is due to reverse its ban on news content, which came in effect last week in response to the news media bargaining code.

The commercial agreements are subject to the signing full agreement within the next 60 days.

"We have collaborated with Facebook in the past and we look forward to the ways in which this deal will help us to continue producing Australia's leading independent journalism,” says Schwartz Media CEO Rebecca Costello.

“It's never been more important than it is now to have a plurality of voices in the Australian press."

The news media bargaining code, which requires Facebook and Google to pay certain publishers for their content, was passed by parliament yesterday.

"We are excited to grow our existing partnership with Facebook; this new round of support will help fund independent journalism in Australia, as well as bring our reporting to new and diverse audiences on Facebook," says Private Media CEO Will Hayward.”

Facebook also signed a letter of intent with Seven West Media earlier this week.
