The Great Resignation might be easing, but only a bit.

The risk of agency and marketing staff quitting appears to be down from a year ago, according to the annual talent survey by recruiter Aquent.

Four out of five employees are satisfied in their current role.

But there are so many job vacancies in the market that many may be unable to resist moving for better conditions and money.

Aquent in November 2021 surveyed 1,635 Australian digital marketing, creative, and development talent. Most (94%) are based in New South Wales or Victoria.

The 2022 Talent Insights Report found 40% of those surveyed are considering leaving their current employer in the next six months.

This is a high proportion and puts organisations at a significant risk but the percentage is slightly less than last year.

“Based on these intent figures, the threat of The Great Resignation may at first glance appear no greater than what it was last year,” says Alex Kenning, Managing Director of Aquent Australia.

“However, the difference now is that job vacancies are at a 13 year high, with almost 50% more open roles than there were pre-COVID.

“Pair this fact with a job vacancy monthly growth rate of 8% and there are far more opportunities for Talent to consider.

“When you combine the intent to change jobs with the opportunities available, there is potential for massive mobility and staff turnover. Is this the perfect storm for the great resignation of Australian digital Talent?”

A factor against a mass shift in jobs is that most are happy where they are.

Only 18% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction in their current role.

“Considering the significant challenges faced throughout 2021, this is surprisingly low,” says Kenning.

“It shows that the majority of businesses have done a remarkable job in looking after their staff and that digital Talent have not only adapted very well to remote working, but have thoroughly enjoyed the work life balance and autonomy it brings.”
