Droga5 Sydney has hired Saatchi & Saatchi creative lead Steve Jackson as creative director, to start in April.

Jackson will work as a "roaming" creative director, alongside creative chairman David Nobay, executive creative director Duncan Marshall and creative director Cam Blackley. He will report directly to Marshall.

Jackson's departure follows an exodus of talent from Saatchi & Saatchi over the past year. The two most notable departures were those of former executive creative director Steve Back, who left for Ogilvy Singapore; and creative director Dave Bowman, who jumped ship to Whybin TBWA Sydney.

Jackson said: "One chat with Nobby or Duncan and you soon realise these guys are doing something right. It’s easy to get worn out and cynical in this business, but they’re always so energised and it’s incredibly infectious. I'm really looking forward to sharing a few ideas and a few beers with them all."

Nobay said: "I've been a fan of Steve's work ever since I hired him at Saatchi’s over five years ago, but we've been mates for a long time too. He's a great writer, a great mentor, but above all, a real grown-up and a natural fit for our style of creative department."

Jackson has worked with clients including Nike, Cadbury, Toyota, Sony and Lion Nathan. At the time of writing, Saatchi & Saatchi was unavailable for comment.
