Saatchi & Saatchi national planning director David O'Loughlin is stepping down from his role to become South Australian Tourism Commission's top marketer.

O'Loughlin leaves the agency in March, and will replace SATC executive general manager of marketing and sales Steve Kernaghan. He will assume the role of director of marketing and communications.

Kernaghan will remain at the company as an executive in a full-time capacity to work on strategy, in what a SATC spokesperson labelled a "sideways move".

O'Loughlin has cited personal reasons and a desire to return to his home city of Adelaide as the motivating factors behind taking on the new position.

Saatchi & Saatchi chief executive John Foley said: "[David] has made an invaluable contribution to the agency during his time here and will be dearly missed by all of us. But knowing the personal reasons, David has decided to move back to Adelaide, I’m really proud of him for making the big call to head home to be with his family."

O'Loughlin has been with Saatchi & Saatchi since 2009. Previously he worked for six years at Whybin TBWa Tequila, including at stint as national planning director in the Sydney office.

Saatchi & Saatchi said it will announce a replacement for O'Loughlin in the coming weeks.
