Jetstar general manager of marketing and public relations David May has left the airline to join price comparison brand iSelect as its chief marketing officer.

May will be responsible for the growth and development of the price comparision business, which specialises in household and financial services.

iSelect founder and group chief executive officer Damien Waller said: “We are delighted that David will lead this process, leveraging his vast experience across a diverse range of sectors, including telecommunications and financial services."

“David’s experience and strategic thinking is a great asset to the team. He will take a senior leadership role and continue the process of building the iSelect brand into one of the most recognised in Australia.”

May leaves Jetstar after five years with the company. During his time there he significantly increased the airline's digital marketing spend, earmarking 40% of its $25 million marketing budget on social and digital media. Prior to this move, digital made up less than 5% of its total marketing spend.

May was previously the marketing director of GE Money and managing director of Wunderman Melbourne.

iSelect was established in 2000, initially as a comparison site for health insurance but has since expanded to include other products and services, including home loans, broadband, and car and life insurance.

May replaces Roger McBride who has left iSelect to pursue other interests.
