A group of senior advertising executives have been volunteering with Viral Kindness Sydney Food Care to get food to those in need during the coronavirus crisis.
The volunteers, working with Randwick City Council and Sydney City Council, pack and deliver care packs of market-fresh fruit and vegetables, donated by Harris Farm Markets.
John “Steady” Steedman, the COO and board director at WPP AUNZ, says this is a wonderful local community initiative by Alasdair Grant (program director) and Linda Robson (liaison officer).
"I am proud to play my small part in this," he says. "Now more than ever it’s incredibly important to come together to make a
positive difference to those in our local community in need.”
Among those volunteering are Linda Robson (The Hummingbirds) Greg Graham (The Nest Consultancy), Andrew Mulready (Mulready Media) and Kevin Clarke (formerly GroupM).
The project, started in April this year in an empty Bondi storefront, is a 100% volunteer run program operating every weekday from packing locations in Randwick and Waterloo.
A team of 20 plus volunteers from a range of industries including fashion, travel, hospitality, events and telecommunications, work with more than two dozen charities and community groups.
Those in need include the elderly and isolated, Aboriginal and youth groups, those finding themselves suddenly without income, women and their families in shelters, the homeless and those at risk of or transitioning from homelessness, and international students and travellers without state support.
In a little over two months of operations, they have delivered more than 7,000 market-fresh fruit and vegetable care packs to those most in need.
