Industry figures are leading the way in getting vaccinated against COVID-19, many of them announcing the occasion of double vax via social media. AdNews asked them about their motivation and experiences.
Sophie Madden, CEO, Media Federation of Australia:
Breaking out of the boredom and confines of lockdown, being able to see friends and family, travelling, going out to dinner, having the kids go back to school and getting back into the office were big incentives for me wanting to be vaccinated – I don’t see any of these things being possible without it.
I got my second AZ jab on August 4. While the reports on AZ did give me pause, I felt the benefits far outweigh the risks. My brother-in-law in the UK had COVID last year and 12 months later he has still not recovered. Plus my sister in the UK and family in Italy have all had AZ – they weren’t given a choice.
My whole household is almost fully vaxxed. My daughter is studying and working in healthcare so it was essential for her, and as soon as NSW allowed it I encouraged my 19-year-old to get the jab. He is stuck at home because he can’t get back to ANU due to border closures and lockdowns. My 13-year-old isn’t eligible yet, but he’s keen to get vaxxed as soon as he can.
