Industry figures are leading the way in getting vaccinated against COVID-19, many of them announcing the occasion of double vax via social media. AdNews asked them about their motivation and experiences.
Pete Bosilkovski, CEO Clemenger BBDO Sydney:
Last year, just a few months after the pandemic started, I received the call I never thought I’d get. One of my management team members, who had only just taken leave as he became a dad for the first time, called to inform me he had contracted the COVID-19 virus. That’s the call I never expected to receive.
It was an absolute shock to my system. You watch the news, hear about the poor victims, but I personally didn’t know anyone effected by the deadly virus. Over the course of 10 days, I saw this him go through hell. There is no other word to describe it. A fit young man, slowly deteriorating. A shell of himself losing 7 kgs in 3 days, couldn’t breathe properly and couldn’t stay awake. 12 months on, and he is slowly making a recovery. There he was, in what was meant to be the best week of his life with his new baby girl, he was ravaged by this nasty virus.
This virus is no flu. And not only does it hold our keys to safety but our freedoms as we all know.
So the day Gladys announced 40s could register for the jab, there was no hesitation. I signed up on day one. I don’t know whether it was fear or sheer determination, but I’ve seen what this thing does to someone I know really well, and in a flash it can turn your life upside down. I have had both Pfizer jabs. No hesitation.
We all want things to get back to 2019 and at this stage, the jab is the only ticket to get back there.
